Grayling
In Scotland the grayling is a truly wild species, only to be found in certain streams and rivers.
Although a game fish, the grayling is a prize catch for both game and coarse anglers with some anglers devoting all their fishing time to catching this elegant fish. The grayling will take a fly as well as bait, with maggots being a popular choice.
The presence of grayling in a river system is considered to be a sign of clean water and therefore where there are grayling there is usually an abundance of other flora and fauna.
